This Week at Chipman: May 19, 2008

  • Chipman Junior High Graduation for 2008 will be held at the Civic Auditorium on May 29,Thursday, at 3:30.  Students will report not later than 3:00.
  • There will be a yearbook signing party Friday during 6th period in the cafeteria.  Tickets will be on sale for $2 during recess at the Student Store and during lunch behind Mrs. Dinsmore’s office.  All funds raised will be used to purchase prizes for end of year activities (7th and 8th grade activities). 
  • Students are not to bring backpacks to school the last week of school – a yearbook and a pen are all that you will need.
  • Students are not to throw water/liquid/etc. on each other to, from, or while you are at school. 
  • Any behavior resulting in a suspension will result in missing end-of-year activities up to and including the graduation ceremony.  Please be on your best behavior as we finish the year strong.
  • 8th graders are not to report to school on graduation day (Thursday). 8th graders are to report directly to Rabobank Theater at 3:00 (with gowns) on Thursday May 29. 
  • 7th graders are not allowed in the ceremony unless they are either performing in the ceremony or accompanied by their own parent (tickets are required by all attendees).
  • Thank you to all students who presented their graduation speeches, great job.  The judges are deadlocked and need to have the students re-present their speeches Friday after school.

  • Highland High School is having choir auditions all week for next year's choir.  Just show up at Highland between 3:02 and 4:00.  If that is not a good time, call the school at 872-2777 to make an appointment.    

  • If you put a baby picture in the yearbook come by Mrs. Gilberts rm 230 to pick it up or else you won’t get it back.

  • 7th Grade Students Eat First This Week

  • From the Vice Principal: Please remember that the length of your shorts/skirts must be arms length at your sides.  When wearing tights under your clothes the item on the top, the shorts/skirt must follow the arms length rule.  You may not wear shorts/skirts on the top of tights that are too short to be worn to school.  Tank tops need to have at minimum 2 inches on the straps and provide proper coverage of undergarments.  When wearing sandals make sure they have a back strap, no flip flops.  In addition bandanas are not to be worn around your foreheads, on your wrists, or on your ankles.  Thank you!
  • Items purchased from the A La Carte line need to stay in the cafeteria to be eaten.  Thank you!
  • Students: graduation gowns will be sold outside of Mrs. Dinsmore's office during recess.  The gowns will be $18 cash only.  Don't wait until the last minute to buy your gown.  If you are unsure if you are graduating and decide to buy a gown, do not open the gown as refunds cannot be made once the gown is opened. 
  • ATTENTION TRAVELERS: Ireland awaits you. Mrs. Howell's trip to Ireland in July of 09 will be cancelled unless there are 12 or more people registered by May 28, 08. See Mrs. Howell for details.

  • If you have lost an item of clothing, shoes, or backpacks.  Please check the office lost and found during your recess or lunch hour.  Any items not picked up will be donated.
  • Attention 8th grade Graduates:  If you are participating in the Graduation Ceremony, you must purchase a new graduation gown.  This year the gowns are a different style and color.  This is why it is important that everyone purchase a graduation gown.
  • All library books are now due in the library. We need your help in getting all library books (except class novels that you are currently reading in your Language Arts classes) returned so that we can pack up for remodeling.
  • N.E. Knights Golden Empire Football information at the flag pole during lunch.
  • Just a reminder for those students who turned in graduations speeches....Speeches will be given on Wednesday May 21, after school in the cafeteria.  Selections will be made following the speeches.
  • Students are to stay away from the storage containers that are now situated around campus.  Students are never to go behind them or behind any buildings as well. Thank you.

  • 8th Grade Students Eat First This Week
  • The library will be closed to students today because of the author visit. We will be open for students next week  for students needing to use the reference books or to use the computers only. ALL LIBRARY BOOKS EXCEPT CLASS SETS BEING USED IN THE LANGUAGE ARTS CLASSES ARE NOW OVERDUE. Please help us get the library ready to pack up for remodel by returning your overdue books!   • 7th Grade Students Eat First This Week
  • From the Vice Principal: Please remember that the length of your shorts/skirts must be arms length at your sides.  When wearing tights under your clothes the item on the top, the shorts/skirt must follow the arms length rule.  You may not wear shorts/skirts on the top of tights that are too short to be worn to school.  Tank tops need to have at minimum 2 inches on the straps and provide proper coverage of undergarments.  When wearing sandals make sure they have a back strap, no flip flops.  In addition bandanas are not to be worn around your foreheads, on your wrists, or on your ankles.  Thank you!

  • JOB WELL DONE, CHIPMAN!   We raised for Relay for Life over $2,800!  Way to go!
  • Chipman will have a professional author/illustrator, Joe Cepeda, at our school on Friday, May 9. Mr. Cepeda's book, THE SWING, which he authored and illustrated, is for sale in the library for $15.00. We also have a paperback book, MICE AND BEANS, for sale for $5.75 that he illustrated. Purchase books and have the author autograph it on the 9th
  • Author Day is Friday! Our visiting author, Joe Cepeda, will be here to talk to students and to autograph books. Mr. Cepeda's books are for sale in the library this week. THE SWING (a hardback book he wrote and illustrated) is $15.00 and MICE AND BEANS (a paperback book he illustrated) is $5.75. Please bring cash. Mr. Cepeda will autograph purchased books after each assembly. Thank you for your support of this literary activity!

  • Students who are interested in the AVID program and who will be attending BHS, please see Mrs. Dinsmore for an AVID application.  These applications are due to me no later than Monday, May 5th.

This Week at Chipman: April 28, 2008

  • 8th Graders eat first this week.
  • It’s that time of year again when we plan for our annual STAR Picnic!  As in the past we will host a lunchtime picnic in order to celebrate the preparation, effort and participation students and teachers made on the STAR test.  All students who have perfect attendance during the star-testing window (beginning April 21 through May 2nd) will receive a ticket to the picnic event (all other students will eat lunch in the cafeteria).  Go Chargers!
  • Tuesday April 21, 2008 is the beginning of STAR testing through May 2, 2008.  It is very important to be PRESENT, RESTED, AND ON TIME for testing.  All students should be ready and in class by 7:37 a.m.   All doctor or dental appointments should be scheduled after STAR testing.  Keep in mind that during STAR testing there are No Interruptions, No Exceptions!  The office staff will not call (page) anyone and no one will be allowed to go into the classroom to retrieve a student.
  • Track practice Monday through Thursday 2 pm.
  • Bakersfield High School Freshmen Pre-registration will be Tuesday April 29th from 3:30 – 6:00 pm in Bakersfield High School Cafeteria (southwest corner of 14th & “F” Street).  You will need the most recent PG&E bill as proof of address.

  • From the Vice Principal:  In the morning before school starts please be up near the yellow line not out on the blacktop behind the baseball diamond and the gate.  Thank you!

  • For STAR test sessions in the next two weeks, report to your 3rd Period MWF teacher on your class schedule.  Some students will be testing with other teachers and their 3rd period MWF teacher will tell them where to report for testing.  If in doubt ask your period 3 teacher.
  • The After School bus has been Canceled during STAR testing, there will NOT be an after school (late) bus.  If you are planning on staying after school for sports practice, color guard, or any other activity, you must have transportation arranged for after school.  Reminder: the office phone is for EMERGENCIES ONLY!

  • Relay for Life will be this Friday May 2nd.  As students and staff of Chipman Junior High we want to support the American Cancer Society and their goal to fight and eliminate cancer.  Many of us on campus have a friend or family member whose life has been affected by cancer.  Saturday, May 3rd is the Bakersfield Relay for Life event at CSUB.  Our event will be Friday afternoon.  Tickets will be available for purchase on Wednesday and Thursday for $3.  We will have water, popsicles, and purple beads available for purchase during the event.  All the money we raise will be donated to the American Cancer Society!  All students may participate in this event, as there are no GPA restrictions.  Tickets for Relay for Life will be available for purchase outside Mrs. Dinsmore’s office during lunch recess.
  • 8th grade students interested in speaking during graduation please stop by room 310 for more information on Thursday May 1st after school.  This will be a brief 10-15 minute meeting, but if you ride the bus you must find other means to get home.
