Welcome to BCSD School Health!

society:

Health and Success in School are Interrelated.

Schools cannot acheive their primary mission of education if students and staff are not fit physically, mentally, and socially.

The present and future health, safety, and well-being of all students is the concern of Bakersfield City School District. Schools, in partnership with families, have a duty to help prevent unnecessary injury, disease, and chronic health conditions.

Supporting Healthy, Productive, and Capable Students

A Coordinated School Health Program enlists all the resources of a school and its community to improve students health and learning. It organizes them so that they work together in a systematic way.

Some of the benefits of a Coordinated School Health Program that have been observed are:

  • Increase in attendance.

  • Increase in general wellness so that students are better able to learn.

  • Increase in staff attendance and morale.

  • Increased cost effective use of resources due to decreased duplication of resources.

  • Increase in parent and community involvement.

  • Improved positive school environment.

  • Decrease in discipline problems and disruptive behavior.

  • Lower teen pregnancy rates.

  • Decrease in smoking among students and staff.

  • Delayed onset of high risk behaviors such as: use of alcohol, other drugs, and sexual involvement.
