MIGRANT EDUCATION BROCHURE

Extended Day Tutoring
After school tutoring classes offered to B.C.S.D. schools with Migrant Students in attendance.

Migrant Education Even Start (MEES/First 5)
MEES (site-based) and First 5 (home based) instructional program offers school readiness and parenting classes for preschool age students.

Sylvan Learning Center
Migrant Students participate in Sylvan Learning Center’s Academic Reading 80 hour Program.  The center guarantees one grade-level progress for students with regular attendance.

Summer Counts
Summer Counts is a State content standards-based review of grade-level Reading, vocabulary, and Math skills which provides continuous summer learning opportunity.  The Reading skills review includes letter sounds, predicting, and sequencing.  Math skills include measurement, time, and recognizing patterns.

Staff Development
Migrant Staff trainings are offered to Migrant Contact Teachers and Summer Outreach for Literacy Teachers as well as the Migrant Office Staff.

Summer Outreach for Literacy, (S.O.L.)
S.O.L. is a home-based summer program that serves Priority for Services and At-Risk migrant students.  S.O.L. teachers provide individual or small group instruction in English/Language Arts and Math, using Summer Counts and Step up to Writing strategies.

Parent Component
Migrant Education provides opportunities for parents to participate in the following committees: State Parent Advisory (S.P.A.C.), Regional Advisory Council, (R.A.C.) and Parent Advisory Council (P.A.C.).  Site P.A.C. meetings are held throughout the year at schedule school sites.

Health and Support Services
Migrant students in need of dental care and/or who have failed the district’s vision screening test are considered to take one the 100 available positions for services during the summer.
