The Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program is administered annually in the spring. Tthe STAR Program was authorized in 1997 by state law to measure how well students are learning the knowledge and skills identified in the California academic standards. The STAR program is made up of four tests: California Standards Tests (CSTs) for all students in grades 2-8; California Achievement Test, Sixth Edition Survey (CAT/6 Survey), for students in grades 3 and 7; California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for students with significant cognitive disabilities; and Spanish Assessment of Basic Education, Second Edition (SABE/2), for Spanish-speaking English learners grades 2-8 enrolled in a California public school less than 12 months.
