In July, as part of their board meeting, the Citizens Oversight Committee toured Chipman Jr. High to see first hand, some of the modernization and improvements that are in process with funds from the bond that was approved by voters in November 2006. Accompanied by Director of Facilities, Ruben Solis, and Chief Business Official, Teri Schallock, the committee members toured one of the district’s schools that will be modernized with Bond funds. The committee saw buildings that were slated to be renovated with permanent walls being built in place of existing dividers and they checked out other rooms that will be receiving new ceilings, and flooring. The committee was shown the measures that are being taken to ensure students’ safety while the renovations are completed. Their tour finished outside seeing areas of the campus that will soon be home to new, permanent buildings replacing older portable classrooms. Stephanie Holladay, Chair of the Citizens Oversight Committee, shared that it was beneficial to have a hands on tour and better understand the process and procedures that are being taken with the improvements for our schools and essentially the students. All in all, it was an informative, and not too warm, field trip.
