Mathematics: Basic Fact Practice Tests
California State Academic
Standards for Mathematics and the District Standards for Excellence in
Mathematics expect students to have mastered basic math facts at
designated grade levels. The following standards and their grade levels specify the
content to be mastered at each grade.
|

Mathematics
Content Standards for California Public Schools
|
|
1 |
Know from memory addition facts (sums to 20) and the corresponding subtraction facts. |
|
2 |
Memorize addition and subtraction facts, multiplication tables of 2s, 5s, and 10s. |
|
3 |
Memorize the multiplication tables for numbers between 1 and 10. |
|
4 |
Memorize multiplication and division facts for numbers between 0 and 10. |
|
5-8 |
Demonstrate proficiency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. |
All students must have the opportunity to build their knowledge of basic facts through ongoing classroom and homework activities. The district has practice sets of Basic Fact Tests available through the Central Library. It is recommended that the practice tests be administered at a minimum of every other week. The Test Sets, grade level designations and time allotments are on the attached chart.
The Math Facts for
Quarterly/Trimester Testing and Reporting and the practice sets are not the
same test. The Math Facts for
Quarterly/Trimester Testing and Reporting were designed to specifically meet
the requirements outlined in the state framework and standards.
To be in alignment with state
requirements, Basic Math Facts Quarterly/Trimester Testing and
Reporting has been established for each grade level as per the table below.

* Students must retake the test each quarter until the 90% mastery level is attained.
Time Allotment:
All tests have a five (5) minute time limit.
Every student is to take the designated fact test on the same schedule as the
math benchmarks, until mastery level has been attained.
Mastery is 90% accuracy. Once
a student has mastered the test it is not necessary for the student to continue
taking the Math Facts for Quarterly/Trimester Testing and Reporting.
However, it is suggested that the student continue to participate in
classroom activities and take the practice fact tests with their class, which
will enable the student to maintain their performance level.
