Principal's Message

Dear Parents,
Everyone has been working so diligently to achieve academic excellence that it is hard to believe that the end of the school year is around the corner. On Saturday, April 12th, over 130 students celebrated their success with a pizza party, book and game give-away sponsored by the Bakersfield City Schools Education Foundation and Frank West PTA. This was the fourth consecutive year that we offered and once again, I am grateful for 17 teachers and staff members who gave up their Saturdays to come teach and make sure that our students were well prepared for the annual CST tests. April was also a very busy month for recognizing our outstanding students. The 3rd Quarter Awards Assembly was held on Friday, April 11th and many students were awarded for their perfect attendance, outstanding academic achievement, and citizenship.
On May 6th, Christian Alcala and Arturo Castellanos were honored at the annual O.D. Williams Award Ceremony. For over the past 48 years, this important award has been presented to outstanding boys in the Bakersfield City School District based on the criteria of academic achievement, leadership development, and citizenship. Later in the week on May 8th, Brianna Gonzalez and Ruby Quintero were honored as recipients of the prestigious Juliet Thorner Award, which was presented at the Bakersfield City School Education Center. This annual award honors two outstanding girls in grades 5, 6 and 8 at each Bakersfield City School District school based on Leadership Development, Citizenship Performance, Academic Achievement, and some form of endeavor in the field of Human Enrichment. Frank West is proud to recognize such fine students.
Once again, we have many activities taking place from now until the end of school. Please come and be part of the excitement.
Thank you!
Mrs. Slaybaugh, Principal
