As you know Literacy, the ability to read and write well, is the top priority at Frank West School. Here are some ideas to promote literacy at home and around town:
· Dictionary Games Build Vocabulary – You need two players. Player One opens the dictionary to any page. Without looking she/he points to the page. Player Two defines the word closest to where Player One pointed. A correct definition equals one point. The winner has the most after 20 minutes.
· Find Chances to Read While Traveling – Read travel brochures together. Plan a fantasy vacation. Find a hidden alphabet- what things around you begin with each letter of the alphabet.
· Get your Relatives to Encourage – Ask a relative or friend to loan a book to your child. An enthusiastic follow-up call or e-mail from the relative will encourage your child to read more and stay on task.
