Parent Volunteer of the Year

Volunteer Luncheon 2.jpg: Every year the Bakersfield City School District honors Parent Volunteers with a special luncheon.  A parent volunteer from each school is invited to attend the special event along with their school principal.  Each volunteer in attendance receives an award and a certificate for their volunteer service.  BCSD recognizes that volunteerism is of the utmost importance.  Studies show that children, whose parents participate in their child’s school community, achieve a higher level of satisfaction and academic success.  A parent’s regular participation in the school’s community gives the child concrete proof that education is indeed one of the families highest priorities and one day when they have their own families they are more likely to keep up this tradition!

We are very grateful for all the volunteers that spend countless hours volunteering in classrooms, committees, playgrounds, cafeterias, tutoring and in school clubs.  We are privileged to have such support and we agree with the words of Mayor Richard Daly “Volunteers are not servants.  Volunteers are partners working together for improving America’s future.”

On May 15, 2008 parents were honored with a luncheon at the Kern County Museum.  There are many opportunities for parents to help out. If you have time and would like to volunteer, click School Site Parent Involvement Personnel to view list of schools.

This year's Volunteer of the Year Awards Program is planned for May 14, 2009 location to be announced.
