Dr. Evellyn Elizondo obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at San Diego State University in 1996 and her Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology with an emphasis in Social Psychology, at UC Santa Cruz in 2003. Her research interests focus on issues of social and personal identity, inter- and intra-personal relations, as well as educational equity and access particularly, Latino and Black student achievement throughout the educational pipeline. She was awarded a dissertation fellowship from UC All Campus Consortium on Research for Diversity (UC ACCORD) for her work entitled, The College Decision-Making Process of Disadvantaged Youth. She continued her research at UC Los Angeles in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies as the Allan Murray Carter Postdoctoral Fellow. While at UC Los Angeles, she served as the Director of Research for Project CHOICES: Access, Equity, and Diversity in Higher Education. Her work with CHOICES centered on social and institutional challenges impacting minority achievement in public high schools and throughout the college experience. She has various scholarly publications and has presented her research both nationally and internationally.

 

In her applied work, she has collaborated closely with K-12 educational stakeholders on improving student outcomes and services. Her evaluation work of federal and state funded academic programs has guided her use of data-driven decision making at the local level. Additionally, she has served as a research consultant for private sectors such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Heller Ehrman Law Firm. Her commitment to improving public education is an extension of her longstanding leadership with organizations dedicated to creating more equitable outcomes for all students.
