Thorner & Downtown Celebrate Distinguished School Award
Both Dr. Juliet Thorner Elementary School and Downtown Elementary School celebrated their being named a 2008 California Distinguished School. Many local and state dignitaries recognized the importance of this honor by attending or sending representatives to their festive celebrations. Those attending the celebration included Mayor Harvey Hall, City Council Member Ken Weir, Board Members Donald Vereen, Karen DeWalt and Jerry Tate, Superintendent Michael Lingo, and representatives from US Congressman Kevin McCarthy and State Assemblymember Jean Fuller. Also, our two California US Senators sent certificates of recognition.
