Francisco Flores CABE Teacher of the Year
Francisco Flores, a dynamic 5th grade teacher at Mt. Vernon School, was recently honored as the California Association of Billingual Educators (CABE), Teacher of the Year for Migrant Region 21, which serves over 2,600 migrant students at forty one schools in the Bakersfield City School District. Mr. Flores is a passionate teacher, who strives to make his lessons meaningful, interactive, and fun for all learners. He comes to school every day genuinely excited about student achievement and positive social growth. As a teacher who loves his students, he demonstrates a sincere interest in the lives of his students: their backgrounds, talents, fears, and aspirations. Mr. Flores goes above and beyond, with both his classroom students, and the migrant students whom he serves. He has been an integral part of the Migrant Program's efforts to provide supplemental academic services through activities such as after school tutoring, academies, and intensive boot camps. He has also served as Lead Cluster Teacher and provided support to Migrant Contact teachers at various school sites. And, for the past three years he has cooked over 1,000 hot dogs for SOL's (Summer Outreach for Literacy) culminating BBQ.
Congratulations Mr. Flores!
