Rick Van Horne

Rick Van Horne was elected to the Bakersfield City School District Board of Education in November 2004.

Mr. Van Horne is currently teaching independent study at Liberty High School.  Prior to his teaching duties he served nine years as a deputy with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department. 

Mr. Van Horne received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1992 from the California State University, Bakersfield and in 1994 earned his California Teaching Credential.  In 2001 he was recognized as Who’s Who of Distinguished Teachers of America.  Much of Mr. Van Horne’s professional career has been devoted to students in the area of physical education.  He began coaching young athletes in Jack Frost Youth Football before transitioning to various coaching assignments at the high school level until his current assignment at Liberty High school.

In 2004 Mr. Van Horne took his coaching to a new level being named Head Coach of the Bakersfield Blitz, a professional arena team here in Bakersfield.  He led the Blitz to a Western Division Championship in his first year.
