Freight Train Running: A Biography of Buck Owens
The Bakersfield City
School District Educational Foundation unveiled the brand new
children’s book, Freight Train Running: A Biography of Buck Owens,
on Wednesday, March 15, at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace. The event
featured the author, illustrator, and designer, each a BCSD employee
who donated her time and talents to create this children’s book
highlighting Buck Owens’ achievements. During the event we had an
appearance by Buck himself. Mr. Owens thanked everyone who
participated in the accomplishment of the book.
The project came
about as a result of the efforts of the Bakersfield City School
District’s Coordinator, Library Media Services, Sandra Yoon, who was
asked to publish a book as a fundraiser for the BCSD Ed Foundation. All
proceeds from sales of the book go to the Bakersfield City School
District Educational Foundation’s grant program, which provides funding
for special grants that go to individual teachers for use in their
classrooms with their students.
BCSD has another accomplishment to be proud of, Freight Train Running: A Biography of Buck Owens, was created by BCSD employees author, Linda Stacey; illustrator,
Angela Gia; and designer, Karlene Copenhaver. The book will be on sale
at the following locations: Russo’s Books, The Crystal Palace and
Barnes & Noble. For more information on purchasing a book, click here.
Description of the Book:
From
humble beginnings in the farm and oil fields up through the ranks of
country music, Buck Owens realized his life’s goal of becoming a
country music singer. Buck’s journey began with an uprooted family
traveling to California and ended with him becoming the megawatt
country music star. This marvelous picture book, designed for
primary-school aged students, will entertain and inform not only
children of all ages, but country music fans and believers in the
American Dream as well.
