Board of Education Vacancy

Members of the community interested in serving on The Bakersfield City School District Board of Education must be eligible pursuant to Education Code 35107. Eligible parties will:
  • Be at least 18 years of age 
  • Be a citizen of the State of California 
  • Be a resident of the school district 
  • Be a registered voter 
  • Not be disqualified by the Constitution or state law from holding public office.
Interested parties will submit a personal resume of qualifications, a personal letter of interest stating reasons for wanting to become a member of the Board of Trustees, and letters of endorsement from community members and/or organizations to the district at the address below so it is received not later than 4:30 p.m., January 26, 2007 to:

Qualified nominees will be invited to a special board meeting on Monday, February 5, 2007 at 6:30 p.m., to make a 5 minute presentation to the board regarding their qualifications relating to the appointment. The administrative assistant will tally Board member’s open ballot votes for their first choice candidate. The applicant who receives three or more first choice votes will be the provisional appointee.

The Oath of Office will be administered and the appointee will thereafter participate as a regular board member with full voting privileges until the next regularly scheduled election for governing board members. The Statement of Appointment will subsequently be completed, filed and posted according to Education Code section 5092 and California Government Code section 6061.
