Volunteer Groups
DISTRICT LEVEL
District Advisory Committee (DAC)
The committee, which is
a volunteer group required by State law, includes one parent
representative from each school that has a School Advisory Committee
(SAC) committee. However, the DAC representative is not required to be
part of the SAC committee. It is recommended that each DAC
representative report at their monthly School Site Council meetings.
The DAC provides advice, assistance and advisory recommendations to the
administration and the Board of Education for the continuing
improvement of the general education of students participating in a
State Compensatory Education or Title I program.
Regional Advisory Committee (RAC)
The committee, which is
a volunteer group required by State law, consists of one parent
representative from each school that is involved in the Migrant
Extended Day program. The committee offers advice to establish or
improve supplemental services that meet the special educational needs
of migrant children in order to address problems arising from their
migrant lifestyle.
District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC)
The
committee, which is a volunteer group required by State law, includes
one parent representative from each school that has an ELAC committee.
However, the DELAC representative is not required to be part of the
ELAC committee. The DELAC provides advice, assistance and advisory
recommendations to the administration and the Board of Education for
the continuing improvement of the general education of English-language
learners.
SCHOOL LEVEL
PTA/Booster Clubs
The PTA/Booster Club is a group of
parents at a school site joined together by choice. The group provides
support for the students' special interest activities both in direct
assistance and in fundraisers for activities.
School Site Council (SSC)
The Council, which is a
volunteer group required by State law for schools that receive
supplemental School Improvement funding, is comprised of at least half
parents and half staff members at a school site. However, students are
included at the junior high/middle school level. (Each BCSD School has
a School Site Council.) The SSC participates in the School Improvement
Program at the school site so that they can respond to the educational,
personal and career needs of every student. They do this by assessing
their needs, developing a school plan to meet those needs and
establishing an annual budget that is directly connected with the
activities in the plan.
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
The committee,
which is a volunteer group required by State law, is comprised of
parents and staff members at a school that has 21 or more
English-language learners. The ELAC committee provides advice,
assistance and advisory recommendations to the principal and the school
staff for the continuing improvement of the general education of
English-language learners.
