Mr. Jerry Tate was elected to the Bakersfield City School District Board of Education in November of 1994. He has held the offices of clerk pro tem, clerk, president pro tem, and president of the Board.

Mr. Tate has a BA from Fresno State and an MA from California Lutheran. He was drafted into the army and spent two years in the Washington, DC area (Ft. Belvoir, VA) in the finance corps. He later sold truck trailers for Utility Trailer Sales for two years.

Mr. Tate began his education career in the West Sacramento School District where he taught for two years. He then served 30 years with the Bakersfield City School District as a teacher, counselor, vice principal, and twenty years as a principal. He also served five years with La Verne University supervising student teachers.

Mr. Tate's community service activities include past president and current member of the Westchester Kiwanis; past president Bakersfield City School Men's Club; and past president Bakersfield City School District Principal’s Association.

Mr. Tate has been married to Dorothy Tate for 40 years and they have three children, two sons and a daughter. He enjoys playing golf, traveling, and entertaining his grandson.
