State-Wide Honors
BCSD is proud to announce that Downtown School and Thorner Elementary are recipients of the California Distinguished School Award.Sandra West, principal at Downtown School, says “I am very proud and honored to be a part of this esteemed award. The California School Recognition Program run by State Superintendent Jack O’Connell sets very high standards in selecting recipients for this honor. Our team at Downtown Elementary School is privileged to accept the award and will continue to give our students the very best educational opportunities possible.”
And Margaret Gallegos, Thorner Elelmentary's principal, said "The entire Thorner School community is honored and excited to receive this recognition. The rigorous application and validation process inspires us to continue to set the highest standards so that every student can and will achieve their potential."
Both schools will be honored as Distinguished Schools on May 16, 2008 at the Disneyland Hotel at a statewide awards ceremony where the State Superintendent will present each school with a 2008 California Distinguished School plaque and flag. They will hold this honor for four years.
