10th Annual Academic Pentathlon

pentathlon1: For the tenth time in ten years almost 300 fourth, fifth and sixth grade students from across the district met to see who would take home the gold (and silver and bronze) at the tenth annual Academic Pentathlon. Designed to generate the same kind of enthusiasm and school pride usually reserved for sporting events, this year’s event surpassed all expectations. With Emerson Middle School, Owen’s Intermediate, and Voorhies claiming overall gold medals in 6th, 5th and 4th grades, respectively, there was enough school spirit in the Stiern Gym to last the summer.

Prior to the final three days on May 13, 15, and 17, students spent three months training in the areas of Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies as well as developing teamwork and cooperation skills. This year over 30 teams competed in an event that is unique in Kern County and the only one of it’s kind in the state that allows fourth and fifth graders to participate.

Congratulations 2007-2008 Academic Pentathlon Winners!
