Instructional Tutoring for Student Achievement

Program Description
Students in grades 1 – 6 enjoy participating in the “Thunderbolt Thinkers” program at Thorner Elementary. Small groups of six students receive intensive reading or math instruction for six weeks. The students meet three times a week with one teacher after school. The teachers prepare a weekly planning sheet with their objectives. In addition, students are given a pre and post test to monitor their progress.
Dr. Juliet Thorner Elementary also provides a quality Fine Arts extended day program through our Creative and Performing Arts Magnet Program. Students have the opportunity to attend art, musical dance theatre, ballet, jazz dance, tap, gymnastics, physical education and homework classes. These classes are an extension of the regular day from 2:25 – 5:00 p.m. For more information contact the Magnet office at 531-5492.
How does my child qualify for this program?
Teachers recommend students to participate in the program based on the following criteria:
- Retained students
- Students at risk of being retained
- Students scoring 49% and below on the SAT/9 – Total Reading
- Parent Request/Student Intervention Team
