It is an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Downtown School.  During my time here, I have been amazed at the level of dedication of our students, staff and families. Our Downtown School community is truly like no other. I am continually impressed with the tenacity and drive of everyone who contributes to the success of our school’s ongoing success!  One of our most notable achievements is being honored as a one of only three Kern County 2023 California Distinguished Schools. It is through high expectations and hard work that our school is able to achieve this coveted honor. 

     Downtown School has a rich tradition of academic excellence. This legacy continues through the hard work of our outstanding staff, talented students, and dedicated parents. Our students participate in many academic events to showcase their talents, knowledge, and competitive spirit including the academic pentathlon, oral language festival, knowledge bowl, spelling bee, battle of the books, accelerated reader, science fair, history day, glee club, choir, instrumental band concerts and honor performances and robotics. We also offer a full sports program competing against other middle schools in the BCSD in flag football, volleyball, cross country, soccer, basketball, softball, and track. Our after school EduCare program provides a safe and caring environment for homework help, enrichment, and physical activities for students, both before and after school.

     Spending time with Kindergarten students during their 50th day celebration, listening to students showcase their science exploratorium presentations, accompanying the robotics team to compete in the Vex Worlds Robotics competition and sending off the 8th grade students to high school after graduation are just a few of the wonderful memories that I will cherish forever.  I look forward to many more of these reminders of all of the amazing things that are happening at Downtown School.   

     Our little school really makes a big impact in our community!  Every event we host to raise money goes beyond our expectations!  We are thankful for everyone who donates time, effort, and money to our awesome Booster club!  All funds raised go straight back to our students.  Field trips funded by our booster give kids the opportunity to experience all our state has to offer.  From museums in LA, to Camp KEEP on the central coast, and north to the Fresno Zoo, we are able to use these trips to enhance the life experiences for all students.  The Associated Student Body (ASB) also raises money and supports our school with extra supplies and activities. 

     The staff, students, and parents go above and beyond to continue the high levels of academic achievement and excellence at Downtown School.  I so very much appreciate all of the hard work that the Downtown Team puts in on a daily basis and can’t wait to see what fabulous accomplishments lie ahead for our Dragons!
