Dear Owens Intermediate School Parents and Community:                                               

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.  I, along with our entire Bobcat staff, am excited about the upcoming school year as we look forward to working with you.  I hope you enjoyed a fun and restful summer and that your students are ready for a successful school year.  Two goals that we are striving to ensure are the following: 1- We will insure academic growth for all students and 2- We will provide a safe and positive learning environment for all of our stakeholders (students, staff, parents and community members).  The vehicles to help us achieve these goals are Good First Instruction with solid intervention supports to meet the needs of all of our students, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, Cultural Proficiency, and an efficacious Professional Learning Community where all stakeholders will collaborate and share best practices on a regular basis.  You will hear about these items from your child and our correspondences throughout the year.  However, most importantly, we are reaching out to you for support.  Owens Intermediate is rich in tradition with parent support, and we want that tradition to continue.  Please feel free to volunteer in your child’s class, join and participate in our PTA and our multitude of parenting classes and activities that are provided through our F.A.C.E. team.

We have added a few new staff members this year and I would like to introduce them to the Bobcat family.  Please join me in welcoming Ms. Aguirre (Instructional Aide), Ms. Perkins and Ms. Walters (Special Education) to Owens Intermediate.

Our entire staff is working extremely hard for your child and you can help us in the following ways:

• Make sure your child is present and on time to school every day.  Please schedule doctor and dentist appointments for after school hours, for our teachers teach from bell to bell.
• Arrange a time and place in your home for your child/children to sit and complete their homework each night.
• Spend time reading with your child/children every night.  If you spend just 30 minutes reading with them in the evening, you not only spend quality time together, but they will greatly benefit academically from this simple task.
