Attendees were treated to a screening of the movie “Wonder Park”, raffle prizes, popcorn and beverages. The night began with a welcome from Principal Steve Robinson, BCSD Superintendent Doc Ervin and Family and Community Engagement Coordinator Dee Dee Harrison. They shared their excitement for a new school year and emphasized the importance of attendance for each student in BCSD.
LaTessa Thompson, whose daughter attends Stella Hills, said, “This was a wonderful family movie night, and there was a lot to learn and know about the upcoming school year.” When asked what was important for her student this year, she replied, “Attendance. My daughter was sick for quite some time last year, so attendance is going to be important for us this year.
Her daughter, Carlasia, is going into the third grade at Stella Hills. “I had fun tonight and really enjoyed the movie.” When asked about the upcoming school year, she said, “I am most excited to see my friends and my teachers.”
Each student that attended received a complimentary back-pack and various school supplies to prepare them for the upcoming school year. The event, prizes, backpacks and school supplies were all made possible because several donors, including KGET –TV 17, Bank of America, Valley Republic Bank, KC – Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Kern family Health Care and The Blessing Corner Ministries.
