BCSD Schools Celebrate the First Day of the 2019-20 School Year

August 16, 2019 - It was an exciting day for BCSD schools as they welcomed back students for the first day of school on August 14, 2019.  Every school in the district opened their doors with activities, smiles, and excitement, as students stepped on campus for the first time following summer vacation.

School staff was very creative in how they welcomed students. Some rolled out the red carpet, created photo backdrops, held welcoming signs and played music.  At several campuses, the staff and administration gathered near the entrance and greeted the students as they walked through the gates giving high fives, hugs and applause.

Josiah, a 3rd grade student at Wayside elementary was excited to be back at school. “The first day has been pretty good so far. It is good to see my friends again,” he said. “Reading is my favorite subject”

Josiah father, Oscar Rodriguez, was also enjoying the first day of school along with his son. “Today has been awesome for me and my son,” he said.  “The first day of school is important for me because I got a chance to meet the teacher and see who my student will be interacting with every day.”

Thank you to all the faculty and staff for their efforts to make this a special day for all the students in BCSD.  Your efforts today and throughout the school year will help make this yet another amazing year at the Bakersfield City School District.
