Migrant Education Hosts Program for Overall Wellness

December 4, 2019 - Over a hundred students from BCSD’s Migrant Education program were invited to Washington Middle School for activities and educational projects as part of the Program for Overall Wellness (POW).

Attending students had the opportunity to participate in learning activities that focused on grammar, science, nutrition and art.  The students also took part in outdoor activities including yoga, jogging and soccer.

All of the activities were planned and implemented by migrant education staff members and counselors with the intention to engage and challenge the students in and out of the classroom.  Parents of migrant students were also invited to the campus to participate in projects and information sessions specifically geared toward them.

Eric Espinoza, student at Voorhies Elementary, said, “This week we have been exercising, painting and a lot of other fun stuff.  My favorite part was playing soccer and being with my friends.”

Alberto Gonzalez, another student participant, said, “My favorite thing this week was how they taught us to be healthy and when we got to play different sports during PE.”

Thank you to all the students who participated and thank you to the counselors and Migrant Education staff who helped make this event successful.
