BCSD Education Foundation Hosts the 24th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic

December 17, 2019 - The BCSD Education Foundation hosted the 24th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic at the Bakersfield Marriott last week.  The event brings together local dignitaries, education administrators and community partners to raise money for local education through teacher grants offered by the foundation.  The event included a festive lunch, a silent auction, opportunity drawing and a holiday themed performance by the Owens Intermediate Bobcat singers.

Kristie Mead, President of the BCSD Education Foundation, said “Each year we host this event in hopes of raising more money for our local schools to benefit students and teachers.  With the proceeds from this event, we can approve more teacher grants which puts that money back into our schools.”

The highlight of the event was the silent auction and opportunity drawing.  The auction featured “Teddy Bear Baskets” that were donated from BCSD schools, BCSD administrative offices and several local businesses/community partners.  The gift baskets were each custom made with various gift items and could be bid on by anyone in attendance.  The opportunity drawing featured Disneyland tickets, a pack of local restaurant gift cards and a “Gift Tree” that included Universal Studio passes.

Lillian Tafoya, President of the BCSD Board of Education, said “This festive event began more than 20 years ago, and it keeps getting bigger and better every year.  What is so awesome about today is that the funds raised will benefit our students, teachers and schools.”

Thank you to all of the businesses and sponsors who donated to this event, and to all of the volunteers who helped make this fundraising endeavor possible.
