Hundreds Engage at Parent University for LCAP Parent and Community Forum

February 20, 2020 - More than 500 students, parents and family members gathered at Sierra Middle School for the February session of Parent University.  The day began with breakfast and then attendees assembled in the auditorium for the morning program.  It started with an inspirational singing performance of “We Are the World” by Franklin Elementary students, then transitioned to the community forum which featured administrators from BCSD sharing progress and updates on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).

Following the main session, attendees broke off into small groups in classrooms throughout the campus to discuss and give feedback with BCSD administrators.  The goals was to give the parents a chance to ask questions and give input regarding the future of BCSD schools. Lunch was provided for everyone to close out the day of events.

Next month’s Parent University will be a field trip to Cal State University, Bakersfield for workshops that highlight educational opportunities after high school and academic and financial planning.  The final Parent University will be the exciting graduation ceremony which will take place in April.  Participants in the program who have fulfilled the requirements will have a chance to be recognized for their hard work and completion of Parent University for 2019-20.
