February 27, 2018 – Sequoia Middle School invited fathers, grandfathers and male role models to spend an afternoon with the students having lunch, playing football, and sharing positive messages. Nearly 300 guests were in attendance, and included football players from West High School, Bakersfield High School and Mira Monte High School, who gathered on the field and scrimmaged with students and fathers. Parents and mentors took time to talk to students about making good choices and the importance of education.
The event was coordinated by the school’s Family and Community Engagement liaison, Emily Jimenez. “I started working with students at Curran Middle School, and realized that there were no special events geared towards bringing the dads in,” she said. “Today we have parents, uncles and other adult participants representing their students.”
Thank you to all families and mentors who participated in this event.
