April 25, 2018 – Twelve school sites from BCSD’s After School Program attended the celebration of WE day at The Forum in Inglewood, California. With 90 excited students from 4th -8th grade and 16 dedicated chaperones, the journey began at 5:30 am as they boarded two charter buses for the 3-hour drive. Once in The Forum, both students and chaperones danced their way to their seating section as the loud music brought energy and enthusiasm to the crowd. They enjoyed motivational presentations and outstanding performances from Selena Gomez, Morgan Freeman, Lele Pons, Will Ferrell, Drew Scott, Dr. Phil, John Stamos and a lot more.
Pedro Garcia, Instructional Specialist for the After School Program, said, “Providing our students with opportunities and exposure empowers students to become self-sufficient and to discern the needs of our community.
DeAnna Clarke, Coordinator of the After School Program at BCSD, said, “The After School Program students earned their ticket to WE day by committing themselves to helping out the community through different events.”
From food and clothing drives that benefited the Homeless Shelter Centers to health drives that benefited the victims in Puerto Rico. WE.org is an organization that provides students with tools and resources to become leaders in transforming communities and changing lives.
Students came out motivated from WE day and on Saturday, April 21, Munsey’s WE team was out at Yokuts Park for the Great American Clean Up. Other school sites are working hard and planning their own WE day event at their schools as they create different events for those in need.
WE day was filmed and will be televised on ABC on August 17, 2018 at 8 pm.
