Bakersfield Luau Helping Students in Academic Achievement

The Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) Education Foundation celebrated the Third Annual Bakersfield Luau on April 21st at Hart Park.

The event featured entertainment by Coco Tiki’s dancers and fire eaters. Guests had the opportunity to bid on dozens of hand-crafted gift baskets donated by BCSD schools, departments, and community members.

The Bakersfield Luau aims to raise funds to create teacher grants in BCSD and thus help student academic achievement.

“I see the excitement at the event. People are feeling good about donating and sponsoring the classrooms and the teachers. It is very important to help students make progress in the classroom,” said Alfonso Rivera, President of the BCSD Education Foundation.

The BCSD Education Foundation thanks all who participated in the event including donors, volunteers and sponsors. The event raised more than $10,000.

"The biggest thing for me and my peers at the Education Foundation is what we feel in our hearts when we visit the classrooms and see the impact, the benefit students receive when we give teachers the tools they need to be successful in the classroom," said Rivera.
