BCSD Instructor Named the Kern County Teacher of the Year

The Bakersfield City School District is proud to announce that Ms. Allison Bogart, Science teacher at Cato Middle School, has been named as Kern County’s Teacher of the Year by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS).

Each year, KCSOS gives special recognition to teachers who have demonstrated Excellence in Teaching in Kern County. On May 9, 52 candidates from various school districts were present at the recognition ceremony at The Bakersfield Museum of Art. But only two teachers would receive the maximum honor of being the teachers of the year of Kern County. In addition to Bogart, Lindsay Stansberry from the Delano Union Elementary School District’s Nueva Vista Language Academy received the Teacher of the Year award.

There were six teachers nominated from BCSD: Fany Ramos, Casa Loma Elementary; Allison Bogart, Cato Middle; Edward Gonzalez, Emmerson Middle; Lorie Morris, McKinley Elementary; Justin Milota, Stiern Middle; and Catherine Gagliardini, Jefferson Elementary.

“To be an excellent teacher requires energy, enthusiasm, dedication and a commitment to be a lifelong learner willing to look at yourself and think what you need to do to improve your own teaching. In the classroom of today the exceptional teacher is a model of the growth mindset,” said Lisa Gilbert, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, KCSOS.

Ms. Bogart is a leader in the field of science and more specifically of the new Generation Science Standards. She is always looking for opportunities to push herself and her students in the field of science. Allison takes it upon herself to attend professional development opportunities throughout the United States so her students have the most cutting edge instructional practices. She is devoted to allowing her students to learn through experience and provides all with the ability to learn and excel in her class.

Ms. Bogart and Ms. Stansberry will represent Kern County in the California Teacher of the Year competition later this year.

Thank you Ms. Bogart for all you do. Congratulations!
