BCSD Welcomes Back Students for 2018/19 School Year

Schools all throughout the district celebrated the start of the new school year this week.  Several of the schools featured balloons, and smiling, enthusiastic principals, teachers and staff.  Many of the schools also featured music and staff members holding signs with encouraging phrases like, “Welcome Back”, “You are Special” and “Have a Great Day!”

Lemuel Kwon, Principal at Casa Loma Elementary stood out front and welcomed the parents and students as they entered the school. “Our goal is to create a culture and environment where the kids are happy and feel excited to come to here every school day.  So we wanted the first to reflect that for the kids, and let them know that we are happy to see them back.”

Wayside Elementary School’s theme was “The Greatest School on Earth” and featured circus style décor and a giant red carpet for students to walk on as the entered the gates.  Dylan Capilla, Principal at Wayside said, “We wanted to kick-off the school year with a bang.  We wanted to invite all the students, parents, friends and family of the community to our campus and show them what we’re all about and set the stage for a great day.”

Faith Martinez, student at Compton Junior High talked about the upcoming school year, "It's important to learn new things and focus on what you want to be in life, and focus on what interests you.  I like the teachers as well, they make things fun."

Jennifer Scott, teacher at Compton Junior high, was excited about the start of the school year. “The best thing about the first day of school is meeting my students, and letting have the opportunity to meet each other.”

We hope that each student is as excited about the school year as we are, and we’re working hard to make 2018-19 the best school year in BCSD history.
