During one of the educational sessions, students gathered in a CSUB classroom for a lesson on how to interact with law enforcement, presented by two officers of the Bakersfield Police Department. On the final day of the program, participating students took part in an Awards Ceremony that acknowledged those who attended and completed the program. Awards were given to the top students in each group, top athletes in each sport, most improved behavior, and the top male and female award for overall camp performance and participation.
This is the 24th year that the NYSP has been held at CSUB. The program serves low income students in grades 4-8 and provides sports instruction, college readiness and mentoring. There is no cost for the program and food is provided each day, as well as transportation to and from the site. This year, over 200 students participated in NYSP.
