The day featured presentations from BCSD Superintendent Doc Ervin, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Mark Luque, and a motivational session from keynote speaker Andres Lara, Aka “The Cuban Guy.” In his message to the attendees, Mr. Lara challenged parents to dream big for their children and to increase involvement in their educational pursuit.
“I think Parent University is awesome. It gives us the opportunity to learn about becoming a better parent – I would totally recommend this event to everyone," said Marissa Jeffers, Horace Mann parent.
Janet Fuentes, mother to students at Hort Elementary and Stiern Middle Schools, said, “I like Parent University because it supports families and education. This is my second year coming, and every time I come, I learn something new.”
The event concluded with lunch and a resource fair where parents visited various information booths to learn more about district and community programs and services. This year’s Parent University saw a big increase in guests with more than 1,000 attendees, including approximately 850 parents.
