Mark Luque, Superintendent
Mark Luque was born and raised in East Bakersfield. He attended Mt. Vernon Elementary, Sierra Junior High, and Highland High School. Mark graduated from San Diego State University (BA) and Cal State University, Bakersfield (MA).
Mark Luque begins his tenure as Superintendent of the Bakersfield City School District on June 1, 2021. Mark is currently in his 23rd year in public education. Mark began his career in the Delano Union School District where he worked as a classroom teacher, site administrator, district administrator, and assistant superintendent.
In 2014, Mark returned home to the Bakersfield City School District where he attended schools as a child. Over the past 7 years, Mark has served BCSD as a district administrator, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent.
Mark has been recognized twice in the past three years by the local Association of California School Administrators, West Kern Charter and Region 11 as the Central Office Administrator of the Year.
