Doc Ervin, Superintendent
I am excited to welcome everyone back for what hopes to be an outstanding 2019-2020 academic school year. Each year it is my privilege to be able to spend time meeting with stakeholder groups and share the District’s Vision, Mission, Values, Goals, and Core Priorities. This year I will also be sharing some of the programs and initiatives we will be focusing on as a District.
As a part of our focus, I will have the opportunity to share the following ongoing key initiatives:
- On the heels of a successful launch and implementation of the Agricultural Academy at McKinley and the Science Academy at Fremont, we will continue to focus on expanding the Extended Learning STEAM Academies across all BCSD schools.
- We will continue to promote and enhance the importance of Literacy and Math while bridging these content areas to career opportunities.
- We will remain committed to focusing on improving school safety and student attendance.
As we prepare to take on the new school year, I want to take a moment to thank you for all that you do and to encourage you to celebrate the many successes and achievements that we have accomplished together as a District. We must continue to work together to achieve our goals and support the overall success of our students.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” We, at the Bakersfield City School District, have a wonderful opportunity to change the lives of each of the students that we welcome into the new school year. Together, we can be a force for Education and make a difference for our community.
Please take a moment to view this short four-minute video which is a testament to the ongoing work and daily impact each of you have on the students of the Bakersfield City School District.
On behalf of the Board of Education and the District Administration, I wish you an amazing 2019-2020 school year!
