Doc Ervin, Superintendent
Dear BCSD Community,
First and foremost, on behalf of the Bakersfield City School District and the Board of Education, I would like to thank you for your endless support during these challenging and unprecedented times. I can say with all sincerity and certainty that we would not have been able to navigate this pandemic without each and every one of our stakeholders' support. In short, YOU! Thank you!
The COVID-19 pandemic landed the District in uncharted territory. There was no precedent or roadmap to help guide us. The only certainty was uncertainty, but with every obstacle the District endured, be assured that every decision was made in the best interest of our students. Although school may have looked different than the regular educational system most of us are accustomed to, we continued to serve our students with the same Values, Vision, and Mission that has always guided our work.
It is quite amazing to comprehend how quickly we have evolved from the traditional school setting to a virtual learning environment, drive through lunch distributions, Zoom meetings, and social and emotional support over the phone or via FaceTime. In a matter of two months, our innovative, creative, and dedicated team of professionals transformed everything we once knew to educate and meet the needs of our students in a changing world. Now, it is time to continue that transformation.
This pandemic is not over, and unfortunately, many challenges still lie ahead. We ask for your continued support as we rise to the challenge and imagine future greatness. As a District, we will continue to look to our Guiding Principles to lead us in making the best decisions on behalf of the many students and families we serve. Our Vision and Mission remain true. The Bakersfield City School District will continue to strive to be a model of educational excellence, equity and innovation. May we always put students first and hold ourselves and others accountable. The 2020-2021 school year will not be easy, but with your support, we will Respond, we will Recover, and we will Thrive!
