Music in Our Schools Week

Music in Our Schools Week (MIOSW)

The Bakersfield City School District celebrates “Music in Our Schools Week” with music assemblies and a fun video at district elementary schools. The assemblies are led by BCSD’s traveling elementary instrumental music teachers. They perform a musical program that exposes students to a variety of musical styles, instruments, and curriculum correlations. One goal of the assemblies is to generate students' interest in enrolling in the district's award-winning music program.  This year a combination of assemblies and video were used to get students ready to sign up for music!

Several instruments were featured during the performance, including the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, percussion, violin, cello, and string bass.

This year’s performance also included a special appearance from some of the characters of the hit show “The Mandalorian.”  In addition, several students had the opportunity to pick a percussive instrument and play with the on-stage performers

Elementary Instrumental Music Recruitment is underway at all sites!  All students may begin playing a musical instrument in Grades 4, 5, and 6.  Click here for information on registering for the Elementary Instrumental Music Program.  All 3rd Graders will automatically learn to play recorder through our 3rd Grade General Music Program.

BCSD and VAPA have been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) as a “Best Community for Music Education” for a ninth year in a row.
