Summer Parent Academy is a program that runs simultaneously with our students Summer School Program.
This year we had three weeks filled of summer fun and learning!
Our Summer Parent Academy sites included: Chavez Elementary, College Heights Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Mt. Vernon Elementary, Munsey Elementary, Sequoia Middle School, Stiern Middle School and Wayside Elementary.
This year, FACE Liaisons offered over 10 subjects in which parents were given tools and handouts to work with their students at home. Parents attended classes to learn how to assist their children at home and give them a head start for the coming year.
All classes were presented in English and Spanish and covered topics such as such Personal Safety, Teen Drivers, Tools for Self-Improvement, How to Support your Child Academically, Technology 101, Positive Behavior Skills, Promoting a Healthier Lifestyle.
But that's not all, parents were introduced to new and exciting activities that the whole family can do together!
Parents also had the opportunity to connect with other BCSD departments and community organizations. For example, School Health & Neighborhood Nurses visited our Summer Parent Academy Sites and presented on the services that are available to them and their families. Cal-Fresh, the Bakersfield Police Department, UC Cooperative Extension, the Kern Literacy Council, and California Highway Patrol were all amongst the community organizations that presented information to our families.

Overall, the FACE Team had an incredible summer partnering our district, our schools and our families to ensure academic success within each and every child.
