Intern Program

Intern Program

Internship programs allow individuals to complete their teacher preparation coursework concurrent with their first year or two in a paid teaching position. These programs are led by colleges, universities, and by school districts. To qualify for an internship program, an individual must have met the California Basic Skills requirement, subject matter competence requirement, and obtained background clearance. The program provides teacher preparation coursework and an organized system of support from college and district faculty. Completion of an internship program results in the same credential as is earned through a traditional teacher preparation program.

The Bakersfield City School District leads a district internship program in partnership with five local universities. Our university partners are Alliant International University, California State University, Bakersfield, University of La Verne, Point Loma Nazarene University, National University, and the University of Phoenix. Multiple Subject, Single Subject, and Education Specialist programs are available. The university provides coursework and a University Supervisor while the district provides an Intern Mentor and monthly seminars.
