Transfer Requests

If you would like your child to attend a different BCSD school than the one assigned to your home address, you must submit a transfer request. Transfers are approved based on available space at the requested school. If a transfer is not approved, your child will attend their neighborhood school. Parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from the approved school. Approved transfers remain valid through the highest grade offered at that school. If your child moves on to middle or junior high school, a new transfer application is required.

Please keep in mind, transfer approvals depend on available space. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. New applications are required when a student advances to a school that is not part of their approved transfer (such as moving from elementary to junior high).

Which transfer do you need?

My child is already a BCSD student, but I want them to attend another BCSD school.

This is known as an Intradistrict Transfer. You child would be moving from one BCSD school to another.

My child is enrolled in another school district, but I want them to attend a BCSD school.

This is known as an Interdistrict Transfer. Your child would be entering the district for the first time.

Intradistrict Transfer Information

Application windows are based on the next or upcoming school year that your child would attend a BCSD school.

Grades 1-8: The application window is November 30 through December 11, 2026. Notifications will be mailed in March.

All grades, including TK & Kindergarten: The application window is March 15 through 26, 2027. Notifications will be mailed in June.

Late requests for all grades: The application window is August 2 through the first week of school. Notifications by September 14.

Interdistrict Transfer Information

Interdistrict transfers have to be completed at the Student Services department located at the BCSD Education Center, 1300 Baker Street, Bakersfield, CA 93305. The Student Services department can be reached at 661-631-4729 or 661-631-4844.

Future school year requests: The application window is May 3 through July 30, 2027.

Current school year requests: Applications are accepted year-round.

Downtown Elementary: The application window is February 1 through 12, 2027.

GATE or Dual Immersion: The application window begin May 3, 2027.
