Vernon Elementary first opened its doors in 1940, making it one of the oldest schools in the District.  In 1955 the school received a special honor from the State of California as it was recognized as a Distinguished School.  Through the years, the staff at Mt. Vernon has worked diligently to meet the educational needs of each and every child who steps foot on campus.
