Sequoia Jr. High School provides a village for students. We understand the importance of addressing the needs of ALL students, from high-quality teaching and learning to balanced social-emotional learning. Sequoia values its students, parents, teachers, and community members.Sequoia Jr. High opened in 1939 under the name Union Avenue School.  In 1949, it was renamed Golden State School and after 1980 became known as The Blair Learning Center.  In 1997, the Bakersfield City School District repurchased the campus, changing the name to Sequoia Middle School.  Sequoia is proud to serve students and families, striving to offer the best educational experience possible for every student.
