Walter W. Stiern Middle School

At Stiern, we nurture students' individual talents and interests as a means to engage them in learning across all disciplines. We do this by offering students hands-on elective classes as well as creating student choice-based projects within content classes. It is our goal to ensure students graduate from Stiern well prepared with superior academic and social skills in order to be successful in high school and beyond. Stiern Middle School was first introduced to the district in 1993.  The school is named after Walter W. Stiern, a Bakersfield resident who operated a long-running Veterinary practice and later served as a California State Senator representing his hometown.  As a senator, Mr. Stiern helped expand community colleges in the area and establish a State College in Bakersfield.  Stiern Middle School does its best every day to equip teachers with the best resources and prepare students for success in every stage of life.
