At Thorner, we believe all students can achieve high levels of success in academics, sports, and performing arts by building a safe and positive learning environment. We will “Succeed with Pride and Dignity” through innovation, teamwork, community building, and our love of learning.Dr. Juliet Thorner Elementary opened in 1990.  The school is named after Dr. Juliet Thorner, a pediatrician in Bakersfield from 1939-1975. Along with caring for children through her medical practice, she also contributed in many ways to local schools by providing health and wellness education to children and parents. Thorner Elementary is a creative and performing arts magnet school and was recognized by the State of California as a distinguished school in 2000.
