Washington has a very caring and supportive staff—our team bends over backward to try to meet the many needs of our students and families.  We’ve focused on systems and structures to improve instruction and services and continue this work, which includes being a driving force for positive change in our community.Washington Middle School was established in 1891 in downtown Bakersfield.  The school is named after George Washington, the first President of the United States.   The school was moved in 1954 because of severe damage caused by the earthquake of 1952.  The original location would later become the home of the Bakersfield City School District administrative offices.  Washington Middle School is proud of its history and heritage and strives to continue its heritage of educational excellence.
